Chapter 1: 2007 - 2010

The Gravitale story began in 2007, when we first acquired land in the Nilgiris (literally meaning ‘Blue Mountains’) mountains of South India that would, one day, become home to the Blue Mountain Vineyards. The site lies in the heart of the Western Ghats mountain range, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a global top ten biodiversity hotspot. At roughly 5300ft (1600m) above sea level, it is arguably the highest altitude vineyard estate in India and among the highest in the world.

In 2008 and 2009, after touring vineyards in Bordeaux and Central Vietnam, we also invited several wine industry specialists to inspect our site and offer their opinion on the viability of growing grapes at this altitude. Conventional wisdom dictated that grapes could not grow at altitudes greater than 1500ft. It was an idea that was, and to this day still is, largely unexplored.

The concept was met with fervent enthusiasm and a conviction that, if successful, we would be creating a new varietal of grapes, completely unique in character and profile. We had yet to discover just how different they would be – all we knew for sure was that they would be something the world had never seen before. In 2010, after three years of research and preparation, we started planting.

Chapter 2: 2010 - 2014

Very early on, we realized what the experts had meant. The grapes were showing signs of an exceptional phenolic antioxidant profile that could be game changing in skincare. They were adapting to the altitude, higher UV sunlight exposure, and multiple weather patterns of the Blue Mountains, evolving into something beyond even our wildest dreams. And so, we oriented our cultivation practices towards producing grapes to be exclusively used in our vinotherapy products – something which no other skincare company in the world has ever done.

But these rare and extraordinary climate conditions also proved to be difficult to harness. It took four years, multiple crop failures, and a great deal of learning to finally perfect an IP-protected viticulture strategy that reaped the unique benefits of our altitude and environment, and made the grapes as powerful as possible for skincare.

In 2014, when we tested the grapes for their total phenolic content, we knew we had created something truly special. Our grapes had a staggering 5.4 times more phenolic antioxidant content than other wine or table grade grapes. Finally, they were ready to present to the world – but the question was how?

CHAPTER 3: 2014 - 2015

We wanted to create a new kind of product – something truly worthy of our revolutionary grape varietal. It had to capture the spirit of our formulation philosophy – scientific in nature, and natural in character. It had to be sophisticated yet uncomplicated, refined yet unprocessed, reflecting our farm-to-table, minimal intervention approach to skincare. And lastly, it had to be holistic in serving several skin types and concerns.

After several months of working closely with a reputed formulation expert, in 2015 we developed our first sample of the Revitalizing Skin Gel: a jelly-like, multipurpose exfoliant with actual crushed grapes – skins and seeds included – and without any granules or harsh scrubbing particles. We call it a “one and done” product that exfoliates, nourishes, brightens, soothes, hydrates, tightens, softens, and improves skin metabolism all at once, with minimal effort on your part (read more on its proven efficacy results here).

CHAPTER 4: 2015 - Today

The Revitalizing Skin Gel is the culmination of almost ten years of research, preparation, and hard work. It is the centerpiece of our upcoming product line, and a must-have staple in your bathroom cabinet.

We are extremely excited to finally present the world the vision we have been building since 2007, and can’t wait to see how Gravitale will change your skin – and your life – like it has ours.

Our Topical Grade GrapesA new standard of skincare

Grown in our own Blue Mountain Vineyards, the grapes used exclusively in Gravitale products have a powerful, therapeutic combination of naturally occurring phenolic antioxidants, alpha hydroxy acids, phytonutrients, vitamins, and minerals that are ultimately transferred to the skin when applied topically, or externally.

Through minimum intervention and biodynamic agriculture techniques, our IP-protected viticulture strategy harnesses the benefits of the altitude and environmental conditions that are unique to the location of our vineyards.

The result? A varietal of grapes exclusive and unique to us, with a phenolic antioxidant content that is 5.4 times higher than in other grapes, as evidenced by their thicker skins and seeds, as well as their tartness. This translates to increased free radical scavenging, stimulation of collagen production, and blood flow to the skin.

Why grapes?

Grapes – one of skincare’s best kept secrets – contain a remarkably high antioxidant potential, which translate to marvelous uses when applied topically to the face and body. Antioxidants deliver nourishing, moisturizing, deep cleansing, anti-aging, and several other beneficial properties to the skin.

Gravitale has a simple mission

Unlike other vinotherapy products, which use extracts derived from the byproducts of winemaking, Gravitale products use the entire grape itself, as well as extracts derived from the grape.
